Aluminum 7050

7050 aluminum sheet is the preferred choice in aerospace applications where it requires the metal used to have good SCC (stress corrosion cracking) resistance, strength and toughness. It is typically used in sheet applications with a thickness between three and six inches. 7050 aluminum has higher corrosion resistance and better toughness compared to 7075 grade alloys. 7050 aluminum tends to be used in thicker profiles because of its lower quenching sensitivity compared to other aerospace aluminum alloys. This allows it to maintain strength characteristics, resistance to stress corrosion cracking and fracture toughness.

TOP
The application fields where 7050 aluminum alloy is commonly used include baffles and fuselage frames. These application fields require the thickness of the aluminum alloy to be between 2 and 6 inches. Another common application is the wing skin. 7050 aluminum does not have good cold working properties, but can be machined. It also has a good anodic oxidation reaction. Welding methods such as brazing, gas shielded arc welding, or coated metal arc welding are not recommended for joining.
